I am going to buy my first pipe clamps and I can purchase hardware for 1/2 or 3/4 pipes. I think I would rather get the 1/2 but was wondering if there is some type of advantage to getting 3/4 other than possibly for larger jobs where I need more strength? I am a novice and I would be using them in the near-term for gluing up table topsThanks
I was planning on buying the hardware from Rockler. Is this site recommended?

Pipe clamps are useful tools to have around, especially if you do DIY a lot. They take the hassle out of many tasks and make it easy to work even without a partner to hold down surfaces. You will find clamps in different designs and sizes, each one meant for specific work. Some are utilised in plumbing applications, and others in woodworking and metalworking. As with any other tool, getting the right clamp is of utmost importance since it increases the efficiency of the device and the safety of the worker. What fundamentals should you look at when debating between buying one pipe clamp over another?
Size
If a pipe clamp is to benefit your piping or woodworking requirements, it must be the correct size. Clamp size is usually measured using its diameter. The distance between one end of the mouth to the other will determine the type of tube that can fit in there. Before buying a pipe clamp, consider the outside diameter of the tube or whatever object that needs clamping. If you are uncertain of the accurate size, your sales person can help you estimate the best measurements. Note that, in some regions, pipes and tubes may have different diameter measurements, which will affect your choice of clamps, so be certain.
Type
Clamps vary widely, depending on the kind of work to be done. When considering your clamp options, be clear about why you are getting the tool. For instance, the clamps you get for a plumbing installation are not the same ones used when doing metalwork. Talk to an expert about the specific products for a project before making a purchase. Some clamps are most appropriate when applying a lot of pressure while others work better as holding devices. If you have to repair a vertically oriented gas pipe, for instance, you have to buy a vertically oriented pipe clamp and nothing else.
Material
Manufacturers produce pipe clamps with different materials, which is another element that will determine your buying decision. When evaluating the most suitable material, consider durability, for one. Clamps that have to connect underground plumbing pipes have to be good enough to last a significant while. The strength of the material is another consideration. Pipe fittings that have to withstand a lot of pressure, whether gas or water, must be built with a strong material. Some buyers consider the compatibility of the material with the environment, particularly when it comes to underground pipe support. Nowadays, consumers opt for more sustainable products and pipe clamps are no different. The operating temperature of the material is also fundamental, considering the expansion and contraction that pipes have to undergo. For some people, the aesthetics of a pipe clamp matter as well and the material contributes a great deal to that.
A host of other requirements determine the most appropriate clamps to use for your project like the direction of the pipes. Additionally, the type of tubing, piping or hose that needs clamping will also guide you when selecting products. For example, using metal clamps on plastic plumbing pipes will cause problems such as cracking. In some projects such a buildings plumbing, you have to consider safety regulations as well when picking pipe clamps.
