How to Save Money When Buying latches for automotive cup holder

Our car cup holders don&#;t fit normal water thermos bottles and we wanted a device to fix that. This one seemed nice since it would allow the second cup holder to not be covered as many others options did.

The good! The base of this device opens up and secured very tightly to the existing cup holder. The base is extremely secure and does not seem to slip or loosen after driving for a month with it installed.

The ok! The top portion swivels allowing the second cup holder to not be blocked and even opens allows for a third holding position with the enlarging area swung into the passenger side area. It looks convenient and seems a great idea.

The bad. ! With the top &#;expanding portion spun towards the passenger seat, there is not very much strength in the hinge to support weight of a water thermos. We were placing a standard 32 oz thermos on it and the plastic hinge was bowing under the pressure of the weight. Perhaps fries or light weight things can be held this way. Also, adjusting the placement for the water bottle required independent adjustment of each of the 3 parts separately. They did not move inward and outward together as expected. There also is not a spring or smooth action in the adjustment. Rather there is a sharp popping sensation as it moves outward and inward like a ratcheting click. Hard to adjust to the size of bottle quickly. To prevent the hinge from bowing under pressure we kept the water bottle in straight alignment with the base of the cup holder. It supported well in this manner, however when the vehicle was moving, if a quick acceleration or stop was required, the water bottle would go flying across the interior of the car. The elevation of the weight allowed momentum and weight to overpower the ratcheting locks of the holder, and the water bottle would go where it wanted. 3 times this month I have had to fish the water bottle from under my feet and pedals while driving. This has left me believing this is the least safe way to transport my water bottle and I will not be using this device ever again. For your safety I do not recommend this product. Unfortunately I am past the refund allowed period but hopefully my experience can help keep you safe.
