Despite the product's claim to be "architecturally designed to provide extra space outside your home for personal use," some users suggest it could facilitate an off-the-grid lifestyle.
However, there are certain conditions.
The kit, despite showing an image of a finished home, only includes a steel frame — crafted from "high-quality," termite-resistant, low-maintenance steel that won't bend, twist, warp, or mold — and the required components for assembly.
Additionally, PLUS 1 Homes notes that these steel frames are impervious to rodents and insects, fire-resistant, and recyclable.
"You have complete freedom to design and finish your accessory dwelling unit (ADU) in a way that suits your space requirements, budget, and personal style," the company states. "The Home Depot offers most of the finishings you'll need to complete your personal space, such as doors, windows, electrical, plumbing, and finishes."
The frame includes pre-punched holes for easier installation of electrical and plumbing systems, as well as space for two mini kitchens — one downstairs along the wall opposite the sofa and another in the upstairs deck area.
All available models can be customized to meet requirements for seismic, hurricane, tornado, heavy snow load, or other conditions to safeguard your investment against natural disasters.
Frame kits can range from 96 square feet up to 3,000 square feet, and larger if needed, with all models offering upgrade options.
