I have done it with a single axle tractor. Had the kingpin for the trailer that hooked right to the fifth wheel. You may have to slide your fifth wheel all the way to the rear with your tandem tractor.

I have been tempted to do this for a long time but have never had a chance to try it. Only obstacle I saw was hooking up trailer lights and more importantly breaks. dakotadirtPosted 9/1/ 00:11 (# - in reply to #)

I did move my plate all the way back, not sure I had too but I did. Mine is a manual plate so it stays to the rear. I also pull a 26 ft tandem axle hopper bottom trailer, so everything works well having it to the rear. durallymaxPosted 9/1/ 08:33 (# - in reply to #)

Have pulled a 24' goose neck with a seed tender on the back, hooked trailer lights to RV receptacle mounted ahead of fifth plate, trailer had brakes, but the tender got to high in the air on trailer so opted for a different trailer.

We outfitted the larger of our two stock trailers to pull with my semi tractor, single rear axle. It may keep the backend of the trailer slightly lower than before but isn't too bad as the tractor has a low profile fifth wheel. It sure beats having a pickup struggle with that large trailer.Posted 9/1/ 20:36 (# - in reply to #)

How do you keep from back feeding the stop/turn, and making neither one work in the two different types of systems? I have tried it, never could get it to work without one system back feeding the wrong lights on the other system.Freedom Heavy Haul can offer expedited Pickup and Delivery for any size shipment anywhere in the USA. If youre in need of hauling heavy loads, a gooseneck trailer is a popular choice. Gooseneck trailers are designed to offer better stability, improved maneuverability, and higher weight capacity than other trailers. In this article, well explore what are Gooseneck Trailer Weight Limits can haul and what kinds of vehicles can it easily haul.
The maximum weight capacity of a gooseneck trailer can vary depending on several factors such as the size of the trailer, the towing vehicles weight capacity, and the type of hitch used to attach the trailer to the truck. The average maximum weight capacity of a gooseneck trailer is around 16,000 pounds, but some can handle up to 30,000 pounds.
Its important to note that exceeding the weight limit of a gooseneck trailer can be dangerous and illegal. Overloading the trailer can cause it to become unstable and difficult to control, resulting in accidents or damage to your vehicle or cargo. Therefore, its crucial to consult the manufacturers guidelines or a professional before purchasing or using a gooseneck trailer.
Gooseneck trailers are typically towed by pickup trucks, medium-duty trucks, or heavy-duty trucks. These trucks are designed to provide the power and weight capacity required to tow a gooseneck trailer safely. The type of vehicle required to haul a gooseneck trailer depends on the weight of the trailer and the cargo it is carrying.
If youre hauling a smaller gooseneck trailer with a weight capacity of up to 10,000 pounds, a half-ton pickup truck or SUV with a towing package may be sufficient. For larger trailers with a weight capacity of up to 30,000 pounds, a heavy-duty truck such as a one-ton pickup truck, flatbed truck, or commercial truck may be required.
Several factors should be considered when choosing a vehicle to haul a gooseneck trailer, including:
The towing capacity of the vehicle is the maximum weight that it can safely tow. Its essential to ensure that the vehicle you choose can handle the weight of the gooseneck trailer and its cargo.
The weight of the vehicle can affect its towing capacity. Heavier vehicles generally have higher towing capacity and can handle larger gooseneck trailers.
The braking system of the vehicle is another crucial factor to consider. A vehicle with a stronger braking system can safely slow down the additional weight of a gooseneck trailer.
The axle ratio of the vehicle can affect its towing capacity. A lower axle ratio provides more power to the wheels, allowing it to tow heavier loads.
When it comes to heavy haul trucking, its important to work with a professional and experienced company that specializes in this type of transportation. Professional heavy haul trucking companies have the equipment, expertise, and experience to safely transport oversize and overweight cargo. They understand the regulations and permitting requirements and can plan the route to avoid obstacles and ensure the safety of the cargo and the drivers. They also have the necessary insurance coverage to protect against any damages or losses that may occur during transport.
Heavy haul trucking can be expensive due to the specialized equipment and expertise required to transport oversize and overweight cargo. The costs of heavy haul trucking can vary depending on several factors, including the weight and size of the cargo, the distance to be traveled, the route, and any permits or escorts required. Its important to obtain quotes from multiple companies and compare their prices and services to ensure that you are getting the best value for your investment.
In conclusion, gooseneck trailers can haul heavier loads than other types of trailers, making them an ideal choice for commercial and industrial applications. However, the weight capacity of a gooseneck trailer depends on several factors, including the size of the trailer, the towing vehicles weight capacity, and the type of hitch used to attach the trailer to the truck.
When choosing a vehicle to haul a gooseneck trailer, its essential to consider the towing capacity, vehicle weight, braking system, and axle ratio to ensure the vehicle can safely tow the trailer and its cargo. By understanding these factors, you can make an informed decision when choosing a vehicle to haul a gooseneck trailer and ensure that you are operating safely and efficiently. Always prioritize safety when hauling heavy loads to prevent accidents or damage to your vehicle and cargo.
