Hello everyone!

If you're eager to learn more about air compressors, feel free to check out our website.

After weeks of searching for a reliable air compressor, I fell for an old, nearly antique Sears/Craftsman model. Unfortunately, it was covered in a thick layer of oil grime, had a bent crankshaft, a missing reed valve, and could barely reach 60 psi. Given the low price of $15, I guess I didn’t lose much.

As I doubt I'll be able to restore that unit, I've begun exploring new air compressors at retailers like Harbor Freight, Menards, and Home Depot. My budget is around $175, and since I currently don’t own any air tools, I’m hopeful to find a compressor that comes with an impact wrench.

The use of the compressor and impact wrench will be infrequent—roughly every couple of weeks. Each time, I plan to run the compressor for only about 30 minutes. The most strenuous task I foresee is removing lug nuts, and I won’t be tackling anything more challenging than that.

I have a 10-gallon air tank set to connect to the compressor’s main tank, which should allow a few seconds of impact wrench usage without a significant drop in pressure.

Through some research, I've concluded that I prefer an oil-lubricated compressor to an oil-free one, also considering the availability of replacement parts for future needs.

Compressor Options I’m Considering

  • ALTON 6 gallon air compressor at Menards - $120
Note: While the size and CFM meet my requirements, I’m hesitant due to the manufacturer’s minimalist website and the difficulty in finding replacement parts.
  • 8 gal. 2 HP 125 PSI Oil Lube Air Compressor at Harbor Freight - $120
Note: This is similar to the previous one but with a smaller tank. Replacement parts are available, but I worry about HF’s restocking fee if I need to return it.
  • 21 gal. 2.5 HP 125 PSI Cast Iron Vertical Air Compressor - $160 w/ coupon
Note: The tank size and CFM are impressive, but this option leaves no budget for an impact wrench. Replacement parts are accessible.
  • Husky 3 gal. Portable Electric Air Compressor at Home Depot - $100
Note: Reviews indicate that the oil sight indicator is fragile and replacements are unavailable. The tank size and CFM are quite low.
  • Husky 8 Gal. Portable Electric Air Compressor - $130
Note: This model is slightly larger and more durable regarding the oil sight. Still, there’s no help for the warranty service issue, and parts can’t be found.
  • Campbell Hausfeld 4 gal. Twinstack Air Compressor - $180
Note: This option exceeds my budget, but if I can gather extra funds, it presents a stronger brand reputation with available replacement parts.

These are the compressors I am currently evaluating. Any suggestions or feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
