aftermarket hydraulic seals vs. OEM

This is one of those areas where, like tires, there are only so many mfgs of hydraulic components, regardless of the name on the pack. That said, I know Deere has some of their O-rings made of a material not standard in some of the more common sizes. I just ran into this recently on an older tractor that belongs to a customer. My 90 durometer Buna-n O-rings wouldn't seal, while the factory one, that was still 90 durometer, but made of another material, did.

That said, what I usually tell my customers is that it's best to go ahead and spend the difference in cost to get the factory kits when they are available. I tell them this, if for no other reason, than the time it takes me to tear a cylinder down, and try to take the old parts and match them up, is more than offset by knowing you've got the right parts ((((((usually, but not always...BTDT too))))) right off the bat, and being able to get the machine down, repaired, and back in the game that much quicker.
