Top 10 Reasons Every Truck Needs a Tonneau Cover

Owning a truck comes with numerous advantages, from hauling heavy loads to navigating tough terrains. However, one accessory that often gets overlooked is the tonneau cover. This versatile addition can significantly improve the functionality, security, and appearance of your truck. In this article, we will explore the top 10 reasons every truck needs a tonneau cover.

Please visit our website for more information on this topic.

1. Improved Security

A tonneau cover provides enhanced security for the items stored in your truck bed. Whether you're carrying expensive tools, camping gear, or groceries, a tonneau cover keeps your belongings out of sight and protected from potential thieves. Lockable tonneau covers offer an extra layer of security, ensuring that your cargo remains safe.

2. Weather Protection

One of the primary benefits of a tonneau cover is its ability to shield your truck bed and its contents from the elements. Rain, snow, and sun can cause damage to your cargo and the truck bed itself. A tonneau cover acts as a protective barrier, keeping your items dry and preventing rust and corrosion on the truck bed.

3. Enhanced Fuel Efficiency

Did you know that a tonneau cover can improve your truck's fuel efficiency? By reducing wind drag, a tonneau cover allows your truck to cut through the air more smoothly. This can lead to better gas mileage, saving you money at the pump. Over time, the savings can offset the cost of the cover itself.

4. Increased Cargo Space

A tonneau cover maximizes the usable space in your truck bed. By securing items under the cover, you can stack additional cargo on top without worrying about losing or damaging your belongings. This is especially useful for long trips or when transporting bulky items.

5. Aesthetic Appeal

Tonneau covers come in various styles and materials, allowing you to choose one that complements the look of your truck. Whether you prefer a sleek, hard cover or a flexible, soft cover, a tonneau cover can enhance the overall appearance of your vehicle. Many truck owners find that a tonneau cover adds a polished, finished look to their truck.

6. Versatility and Convenience

Tonneau covers offer a range of features that make them incredibly versatile and convenient. Some covers are retractable, allowing easy access to your truck bed, while others are foldable or roll-up, giving you the flexibility to use your truck bed as needed. With a tonneau cover, you can quickly adapt to different hauling requirements.

7. Easy Installation and Removal

Most tonneau covers are designed for easy installation and removal. Many models come with clamp-on systems that don't require drilling or special tools. This means you can install or remove the cover yourself, saving you time and money on professional installation.

8. Better Organization

A tonneau cover helps you keep your truck bed organized. By securing items under the cover, you can prevent them from shifting around during transit. This can reduce the risk of damage to your cargo and make it easier to find what you need when you reach your destination.

9. Increased Resale Value

Adding a tonneau cover to your truck can increase its resale value. Prospective buyers often appreciate the added security, protection, and aesthetic appeal that a tonneau cover provides. Investing in a quality cover can pay off when it's time to sell or trade in your truck.

10. Customization Options

Tonneau covers come in a wide range of materials, styles, and colors, allowing you to customize your truck to suit your preferences. Whether you want a hard or soft cover, a specific color, or additional features like integrated lighting, there's a tonneau cover out there to meet your needs.

Conclusion

A tonneau cover is a must-have accessory for any truck owner. From improved security and weather protection to enhanced fuel efficiency and increased resale value, the benefits are clear. With a variety of styles and features available, you can find the perfect tonneau cover to suit your needs and preferences.

Tonneau cover pros and cons? - Tacoma World

I'm starting to become interested in a tonneau cover. I've never really cared for them as I felt like they took away the point of having a bed. Are there any that can easily be taken off & on in case you need the full bed? What pros are there other than being able to have stuff in the bed and not get wet and being able to lock it? What are the best looking covers out there?
It depends on what you are looking for. Any of the soft ones can be rolled up and you have full access to the bed. I have a truxedo truxport and I just roll it up when I need to haul bigger things. I mainly bought it to keep my stuff dry on trips.

If I could go back in time though I think I would get a hard one or a retractible one for the security. I don't keep anything in there normally because I'm afraid someone will steal it.
I put my roll up on in the winter for dry storage, esp if the whole family is along. I take it off in the summer since we're essentially dry here. I leave the rails on so that I can slide it back on in about 5min or so for any trip.

I have no real security concerns.

In the end, I am using it until I can save up for a GoFastCamper.
i got a tonneau cover from tonneaucoversworld.com (american tri fold model) for like 200ish dollars. called and even got a discount. they were great and the cover fits well. bed never got wet with it on. only used it a couple of times now and leave the mounts in place. once you use the cover for a few trips youll see you dont have much room. lately ive been thinking about getting a softopper or bestop for my truck but there very expensive!!!

Yes, it cant be opened if the tail gate is shut.

See if you can find one in the showroom, they are beefy and easily have the best build quality now.

The initial models had a quality control problem and toyota amended this.

The OEM tri fold locks in place with 6 clips that install onto the bed, the top trim on the bed is changed to accommodate this, very easy to install and remove.
Going in for my service tomorrow so I'll look for one! Thanks!
I went through the exact same thing. I wanted the Tonneau so I could lock things in the bed and get better fuel efficiency, but I also wanted to easily access the full bed. A lot of covers give some access or flip up and cover the windshield, but I wanted to easily remove the cover and allow use of the bed rail system. It came down to the Extang Hard Tri fold (best option but super expensive), Extang Soft Tri Fold (really nice but you cant put stuff on top and someone can cut through it) and the Tonno Pro Hard Tri Fold. I went with the Tonno Pro because its the best of both worlds and affordable. Its not the best fit and I'd probably go with the Extang Hard Tri Fold but for half the money I am more than happy.

My must haves were easy access/instant removal, which all three easily come off and security, so the Tonno Pro was the right choice for me. Happy to answer any questions as I did a ton of research before making my decision.
Got any pics?
I'll take some tomorrow for you. I had the cover on a that was unfortunately totaled. I recently bought a that I have it on and I'll take some pics tomorrow to give you a better idea. Here are a few off the old truck and one from the new when I was having the wife put some stickers up for me.

I am very happy with my tonneau cover. It is Lund Genesis Elite model, trifold soft cover. It's been on my AC Tacoma for several months. Very secure. Zero leaks. The "Elite" model uses a premium cover material manufactured by the Harrtz Co., which produces materials for OEM convertible tops. The Elite material has a woven appearance like you would see on a convertible top on a luxury car.

Many detailed YouTube videos on the product and its installation. It went on fairly easy. Also, simple to remove and reinstall. It attaches to the OEM rails in the bed utilizing a clamp system. No need to drill or otherwise modify the truck.
I had one and hated it. I had the Rollnlock and it still takes up some room in the front of the bed. Also in the winter it would freeze up and I couldn't open it. I contacted them and they said to use 303 Protectant on the cover. It helped but it still would freeze. I sold it and got a quad fold hard cover.
