What is 358 High Security Mesh?
358 High Security Mesh was created to be a robust, anti-scale, anti-cut barrier whilst providing enough visibility for perimeter surveillance and yet, being stylish, low maintenance and durable.
The unique characteristics of the 358 High Security Mesh means that it is extremely difficult to penetrate and difficult to attack using conventional hand tools. Therefore, the 358 High Security Mesh can be utilized in many applications such as detention centres security fencing, electrical sub-station fencing, gas pipeline security fence as well as safety barrier for any sites and facilities where public health and public safety matters. The additional tram lines running along the edge of the sheet increase the strength where it matters most. The security level can be further enhanced with using of Barbed Wire Rolls on the 358 weld mesh fence panels.
Why is it called 358?
The name “358” comes from its Imperial system of measurement 3 inches x 0.5 inches x 8 gauge which equates to approximately 76.2mm x 12.7mm x 4mm in the Metric system of measurement.
Where would 358 High Security Mesh be suitable for?
Attributable to the anti-climb & anti-cut through barrier, the 358 High Security Mesh is designed with maximum security in mind. It is ideally suitable for electronic alarm and detection systems applications, fencing in high security concerned sites such as detention centres, military sites, and airports, industrial and commercial properties, or to simply protect warehouses, power plants, laboratories, secure hospitals, schools, parks, leisure and recreational areas from unauthorised access. The 358 High Security Mesh will provide these sites with a long lasting and secure perimeter protection whilst retaining an attractive appearance. Generally, the 3.60m height fence is used in schools, parks, leisure and recreational areas, whereas the 5.20m height fence is commonly used in detention centres and military establishments.
When to use which Finishing?
There are several types of finishing available for the 358 High Security Mesh and it is highly dependent on the intended use, installation location and material cost which might affect the budget of the project. In general, we have the basic Galvanised Finishing where the nature of the zinc layers provides cathodic protection to the base metal, Galfan® (Zn/Al) coating which is a special alloy of Zinc and Aluminium in a ratio of either 95%/5% (ZnAl) or 90%/10%, which offers more protection than traditional galvanising.
There is also PVC coating on the already tough Galfan® finished product. PVC coating is not affected by high salinity, acidity or alkalinity. Therefore, it is suitable to be used is places that are subjected to volatile fumes such as; paper, cardboard or ceramic tiles manufacturing; water desalination plants, swimming pools with chlorine or coastal locations. Should you require more enhanced corrosion resistance, then the next most logical choice would be 100% high grade stainless steel. What are the Product Specifications?
The 358 High Security Mesh manufactured by Australian Steel & Wire are produced in compliance to the Australian Standards AS/NZS 4534-2006 & AS2423. There are 3 types of zinc coatings, Standard, Medium & Heavy Coating and the difference in the coatings are the amount or thickness of coating which is measured by grams/m2 of coverage.

• Horizontal wires - Ø 4.00 mm
• Apertures – 71 mm X 8.5 mm
• Line wire pitch – 75 mm (with 4 X tram lines @ 55 mm pitching) +- 4.00 mm
• Cross wire pitch – 12.5 mm +- 2.00mm
• Minimum Zn/Al coating @ 260gsm (AS NZS 4534-2006)
• Weld shear strength is 75% of parent material as per EN 10224-4:2012(section 6.5)
• Standard sheets sizes are as follows:
- 2400mm X 2400mm - 3100mm X 2400mm
- 2500mm X 2400mm - 4500mm X 2400mm
- 3000mm X 2400mm - 6000mm X 2400mm
